Can I Compost Chicory (Radicchio/Endive)?

(From the Vegetables category | No comments yet - start the conversation)

chicoryYes, you can compost chicory aka endive or radicchio (like in the picture).

The leaves will compost down relatively quickly but if you’re disposing of a whole head of it, tear off the outer leaves or otherwise break it up to speed up the composting process.

Chicory is a green in composting terms – if you’ve got lots of it, add it alongside browns such as straw, toilet roll tubes or cardboard to keep your heap balanced.

If you’re growing your own, certain types of chicory can develop substantial thick roots – they’ll need chopping up before adding to a compost heap, else they’ll take ages to break down.
